Course aims
The course aims to:
1) Introduce students to notions of practice based research and artistic research;
2) Offer a range of theories and models towards the presentation of practice-as-research outcomes;
3) Develop the ability to respond critically to contemporary developments and debates within the specific field of practice;
4) Provide students with the tools and skills to design, conduct, document and present a practice-as-research project.
Learning outcomes
Students who have passed the course will be able to:
1) Demonstrate an understanding of key debates in the field of practice as research in relation to performing arts and performance.
2) Apply key research methodologies and models and use them to respond critically to contemporary developments and debates within the specific field of practice-based research, including students’ own work.
3) Elaborate a process of inter-disciplinary research, recognising complexity in order to devise and sustain arguments in and through practice.
4) Develop ability to work flexibly and imaginatively to communicate their research effectively to others.
5) Experiment with modes of archiving and documenting artistic research.
