Course aims
The course aims to:
1) Develop practical and conceptual skills in undertaking academic and artistic research;
2) Develop skills in the analysis, interrogation and (re)evaluation of relevant theories of practice, working practices, methodologies and bodies of knowledge;
3) Identify and synthesise relevant literature and other resources to provide the rationale for a research study;
4) Offer the opportunity to implement appropriate research strategies, through the production of coherent research questions, analytical plans, documentation and presentation;
5) Develop the means for writing an academic paper.
Learning outcomes
Students who have passed the course will be able to:
1) Formulate appropriate research questions and concerns and determine appropriate methodologies and resources for exploring these questions.
2) Respond critically to contemporary developments and debates within their chosen specific field of research.
3) Carry out independent research and develop lines of inquiry, drawing on a range of sources and applying conceptual/theoretical frameworks in an advanced way.
4) Describe key ethical and governance issues related to planning and conducting research.
5) Communicate complex critical-theoretical thinking fluently, present scholarly writing in an appropriate format, using consistent academic references.
