Course aims
Advanced Rhythm and Pulse is a multi-level rhythm course with three main goals: to teach the student to perform basic and complex rhythms with precision and feel, to share knowledge that can be used to analyze and understand different types of rhythms, and to explore how one can apply these skills to their own musical direction.
Learning outcomes
After spending two semesters with the Carnatic approach to rhythm students will acquire knowledge of the various rhythmical frames such as tuplets, different meters, tempo, pulses, polyrhythms, metric modulation, time brackets, etc. Further, exploring possibilities opened by the course within contemporary music works will reveal its general qualities and possibilities how to enrich students' new own compositions and improvised solos.
