Course aims
The aim of the subject is to develop fluency of playing church chorales and hymns both with classical and with free harmony, and practise 18th century stylistic improvisation in German partitas and French suites, as well as free improvisation.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student
- will be able to harmonize and transpose chorales fluently in appropriate tempo and registration, taking into account the text of the chorale, using cantus firmus in soprano and tenor voices
- will be able to demonstrate Baroque stylistic improvisation (the German partita and the French suite), and a certain degree of competence in modern free improvisation.
