Course aims
Class for teaching prospective opera soloists the practical skills required for creating opera roles. During the first academic year, students study romantic and modern operas. During the second academic year, the focus shifts to role preparation and refinement for full-scale opera performances.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the subject, the student will be ready to start working in a professional music theatre, meaning the student:
1) knows the main repertoire of opera and other genres of music theatre;
2) is able to independently analyse a role and develop a stage character, following the guidance of the director;
3) is familiar with the different styles and genres of music theatre and is able to place the composition in its social and cultural context;
4) has an understanding of choreography, costumes and make-up suitable for the role and the composition;
5) is able to read the score or piano reduction of a contemporary work and perform it vocally; knows the means of the contemporary theatre;
6) performs his or her part impeccably, self-confidently and convincingly, both in terms of musical and stage performance.
