Course aims
The aim of the subject is to develop the student’s musical hearing and auditory analysis skills of post-tonal (atonal) music. These skills are later needed mainly by conductors, musicologists and composers. This subject is mandatory for musicologists and composers. Depending on the results at the entrance exams, prerequisite subjects for this course may be MTM001, MTM002 and MTM003.
Learning outcomes
The subject aims to develop musical hearing at a higher level. On completion of the subject, students shall be able to:
1) apply auditory analysis skills they previously used in tonal music also in post-tonal music;
2) vocally perform and notate one- to four-part atonal music in different clefs;
3) detect and correct deviations from the score in the performance of notated music;
4) know which musical instruments require transposition and vocally perform as well as notate the parts meant for these instruments;
5) know the absolute chord symbols and use them in practice.
