Course aims
The aim of the subject is to make students familiar with the basics of polyphony. It also aims at providing an introduction to the main polyphonic forms used in keyboard music, with a special focus on the fugue.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student will be able to
- demonstrate awareness of the terminology related to the analysis of fugues
- describe and analyze the various means of development in polyphonic music
- describe and analyze various fugue froms
- display knowledge of the use of fugal forms in the works by composers of different historical periods
