Curriculum objectives
The goal of the program is
- providing students who already have a musical background prior to the Academy, with an education on a high international standard, responding to the requirements of contemporary musical life, in the field of jazz. Completing the program is a pre-requisite for entering master´s degree studies;
- supporting an open learning environment that helps and further contributes to the skills and knowledge obtained from the curriculum;
- establishing conditions for personal and artistic growth;
- developing communicative competence, responsibility and co-operation abilities.
Learning outcomes of the curriculum
Upon completing the curriculum, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate excellence on one's main instrument, be fluent in jazz improvisation, display understanding of different jazz styles and knowledge of repertoire.
2. Apply technical skills in ensemble, show ability to perform in different venues, be co-operative and express one's creative ideas effectively.
3. Display awareness of jazz music history and theory, plus understanding of its cultural and social background.
4. Display knowledge of the wider field of humanities and arts.
5. Apply basic pedagogical skills.
6. Integrate the learnt topics, issues and musical material into one's own musical projects in various ways.
7. Communicate and participate, both written and colloquial, in his/her own language of instruction and at least one more language, in musical discussions and on various musical topics.
8. Successfully participate in team work and various initiatives that contribute to society and community in a wider and responsible way; able to use relevant digital technologies.
9. Assess critically one's own level of knowledge and skills, continue with music/composition studies on the next academical level, or in other relevant and meaningful ways.
Short description of the curriculum
The curriculum consists of the following components and modules:
A Major 50 ECTS credits
B Practical courses related to major ECTS 70 credits
- Practical courses
C Courses related to music theory, music history, pedagogy and humanities 40 ECTS credits
- Music Theory, Music History, Pedagogy and General Studies
D Bachelor´s exam 10 ECTS credits.
E Elective courses, 10 ECTS credits.
Curriculum options
The student will complete module A in entirety. From among modules B, the student will complete courses amounting to 70 ECTS credits in total. From among modules C, the student will complete courses amounting to 40 ECTS credits, 3 credits chosen freely. Completing module D is mandatory. Freely chosen courses, 10 ECTS credits, can be chosen either from the catalogue of EMTA or other colleges/universities.
Graduation requirements (thesis, exams)
The curriculum will be completed by obtaining the 170 ECTS credits (major 50 credits, practical courses related to major 70 credits, courses related to music theory, music history, pedagogy and humanities in general 40 credits, elective courses 10 credits) and passing the Bachelor's exam 10 ECTS credits.

[BA20] Specialization module (for ENG majors in Jazz Music)

Objective of the module: The aim of the module is to develop the student's artistic abilities and technical skills in jazz music performance, and provide instruction in how to apply them in various concert and studio settings.
Upon completion of the module the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate skills and knowledge for entry into professional practice and realizing creative ideas.
2. Display good command of one's instrument.
3. Apply fluently various modes, scales and chord progressions of jazz improvisation.
4. Apply fluently rhythmic and articulatory features characteristic of various styles.
5. Perform sophisticated repertory in various styles of jazz music.
6. Compose and arrange on a basic level of proficiency.
7. Verbalize issues and problems related to jazz performance, as well as analyze and evaluate ways to solve them.

[BB11] Additional practical courses (for majors in Jazz)

Objective of the module: The aim of the module is to develop a number of musical skills that in various ways support and contribute to the student's specialization, such as creative thinking in general, musical hearing/listening skills, piano, improvisation etc.
Upon completion of the module the student will be able to:
1. Perceive and distinguish between various structures of jazz music and apply them in musical practice.
2. Analyze jazz improvisations of various performers and use elements of these in one's own improvisations.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the principal rhythmical models of main jazz and pop music styles.
4. Display awareness of the cultural and social background of jazz, its main styles, and important composers and performers.
5. Arrange pieces for smaller settings.
6. Perform pieces that belong to the standard repertory of jazz.
7. Play music in different jazz styles on the piano.

[BC13] Courses Related To Music Theory, Music History, Pedagogy And General Studies

Objective of the module: The aim of the module is to develop the student's analytical skills, to provide an advanced overview of music culture and its main categories, to expand the student's horizons and understanding of various topics related to the field of humanities, to introduce the student to the history of the didactics of their specialty field, as well as contemporary methods of teaching.
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to:
1. identify different musical styles and analyse musical works in terms of harmony, counterpoints and form;
2. demonstrate knowledge of the main trends, genres, composition techniques and aesthetic principles in music history in relation to other fields of cultural history;
3. work independently with literature, reference books and music scores; have acquired the skills to use digital technologies related to music;
4. demonstrate knowledge of the main concepts of the psychology of music and understand the issues of his or her specialty in the development process;
5. demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical schools, trends of development and actual issues of didactics in his or her specialty;
6. apply appropriate teaching methods for developing the skills of students.

2. Perform the exam program with artistic expression and technical mastership.
3. Demonstrate good command of various musical and performance styles with their their characteristic aesthetics and articulation.
